Stephen Redfield

Violinist Stephen Redfield was a student of Dorothy DeLay and Donald Weilerstein. A prize-winner in the Colman and Monterey Chamber Music Competitions, he performs as a chamber musician throughout the United States and internationally. He is often featured as a soloist, specializing in the concertos of the 18th and early-19th centuries. Over many years with the Oregon Bach Festival, he has participated in numerous recordings, including the Grammy® Award-winning disc Credo.

Stephen is concertmaster of the Santa Fe Pro Musica, the Arizona Bach Festival, and the Conspirare Company of Voices. With the Victoria Bach Festival, he performed for 30 years as concertmaster and soloist, with concerts broadcast nationally. Stephen is also an acclaimed Baroque violinist, performing widely and leading orchestras in Houston, Austin and Nashville. He’s established the MarketMusic series of Baroque chamber concerts in Santa Fe, where he now lives after his recent retirement from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Leonardo (Leo) Pinto

Leo, violinist and conductor, has a bachelor’s degree in violin performance from Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (BR), a specialization diploma in chamber music from Alpha Institute and a violin performance graduate certificate from the University of New Mexico where is currently pursuing a master’s degree in both orchestral conducting and violin performance.

In 2015 he joined the first violin section of the Cesgranrio Symphony Orchestra where he also served as guest conductor. In 2016, Leonardo Pinto joined the first violin section and served as concertmaster of the Espirito Santo Symphony Orchestra, performing four entire seasons, recognized by the artistic direction and also by specialized critics. Leonardo was also a violinist and harpsichord at the Orchestra Camerata SESI-ES, with significant participation in concerts, chamber music recitals and also a guest conductor over the course of 2 years.

In his career he has participated in concerts and recitals in several Brazilian states, South American countries, Europe and the United States, where he currently serves as conductor and co-director of the UNM Health and Science Center Orchestra, guest conductor of the eSSO Santa Fe and guest musician of the New Mexico Philharmonic. In Brazil, Leonardo is currently the Artist Director and principal conductor of the Feso Pro Arte Orchestra.

Marie Ross

Dr. Marie Ross is Lecturer of Music at The University of Auckland, where she teaches both modern and historical clarinets, chamber music, musicology, and serves as Director of Woodwinds and Director of Early Music. Marie spends part of her time in Europe where she is Associate Principal Clarinet of the French orchestra, Ensemble Matheus. She has frequently performed and recorded with historical orchestras such as Concerto Köln, MusicaAeterna, Die Kölner Akademie, and the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin.

A passionate educator, Marie has taught masterclasses at leading institutions such as The Juilliard School, the Eastman School of Music, and the Cleveland Institute of Music. She has organized and led her own workshops in Chicago designed for modern clarinetists to learn historical instruments and performance practice. Last year, she was invited by the International Clarinet Association as a featured artist on the World Stage Series to lecture on topics such as “Ornamentation in Mozart” and “Creative and Technical Benefits of Learning Historical Instruments for Modern Performers”. Last summer she was on faculty, teaching and performing at the Berwick Academy, the historical performance program of The Oregon Bach Festival.

Marie has recently released a CD of the Brahms clarinet Sonatas and Trio on original instruments. The recording is part of her research into Romantic performance practice and was called “ground-breaking” by Gramophone Magazine UK. She shares her research on her podcast, “Fidelio”, where she regularly discusses early music topics, her historical clarinet collection, and interviews colleagues of various artistic disciplines.

Marie has a Doctorate in Clarinet Performance from The University of North Texas, a Master’s Degree in Early Music from The Royal Conservatory of the Hague, a Master’s Degree in Clarinet Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and a Bachelor’s Degree from the Eastman School of Music.

Doug Dunston

Doug Dunston is Professor Emeritus at New Mexico Tech in Socorro, New Mexico, where he served as Music Program Director for 20 years, conducting orchestral and choral concerts, operettas, and musical theatre, and teaching courses in music, creativity, and interdisciplinary problem solving. He delights in collaborative artistic exploration has been a frequent coach at the Santa Fe Kammermusik Workshops since 2010.

He is known for his work with the Albuquerque Philharmonic Orchestra, the Claremont Concert Orchestra, and the Animas Music Festival in Durango, Colorado, where he led productions of large-scale chamber works integrating instrumentalists with singers, dancers, and actors. He has also conducted orchestral performances in Schloss Esterhazy in Eisenstadt, Austria and with the Sinfonietta Hungarica in Budapest, Hungary.

Dr. Dunston received his DMA in conducting from Claremont Graduate University and also holds degrees in physics from Harvey Mudd College and University of California, Berkeley. He currently lives in Saint Paul, Minnesota, where he coaches faculty and teaches at the University of St. Thomas.

Kevin Darrow

A classically trained oboist, Kevin Darrow performed 12 years with the Air Force Premiere Concert Band in Washington, DC, and was a founding member of several groundbreaking chamber music ensembles in the Mid Atlantic and New England. He has performed as a soloist and chamber music clinician at many distinguished colleges and universities throughout the United States.

Kevin moved to Santa Fe five years ago with his partner Drew and daughter Dottie. He performs as a freelance musician in the Mountain West and beyond. He works as a music educator with Santa Fe Public Schools as well as with the Santa Fe Youth Symphony Association. Kevin enjoys teaching dedicated and ambitious students in his private studio.

Kurt Carr

Kurt began his professional music career in Washington, D.C. as a classically trained clarinetist, and he later switched his focus to flute in order to engage in his love of baroque music.  He has an extensive background in chamber, orchestra, opera and musical theater performance, both as a woodwind player and as a conductor.  Kurt conducted a Washington-area community wind ensemble, and he also served on the board of directors for the Washington Bach Consort, D.C.’s premier baroque chorus and orchestra.

After relocating to Santa Fe, New Mexico in 2002, Kurt performed on modern and baroque flute with several chamber music groups.  He founded and conducted the community wind ensemble High Desert Winds, and he co-founded the woodwind, brass and percussion-centric music organization Concordia Santa Fe, serving as its president for many years.  He has worked as a woodwind mentor and clinician to public and private schools in Santa Fe and Española, and he has served as a consultant to the National Endowment for the Arts.  Currently, Kurt is the principal flutist for Concordia Santa Fe’s Wind Orchestra and is the director and conductor of the Santa Fe Great Big Jazz Band, an 18-piece jazz ensemble that monthly performs an assortment of modern and classical-era jazz works.

Lisa Grodin

Grammy-nominated violinist and violist Lisa Grodin has earned acclaim from San Francisco Classical Voice as an “outstanding” soloist and from Early Music America for her “terpsichorean zeal” as a chamber musician. She has performed regularly with Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, Voices of Music, El Mundo, American Bach Soloists, and Santa Fe Pro Musica; concertized abroad with Les Arts Florrissants, Capella Savaria, La Cetra, and Capella Cartusianum; and performed in over 50 commercial recordings and educational YouTube videos. Since moving to Santa Fe in 2021, she has enjoyed playing as a guest with Severall Friends and MarketMusic.

Devoted to making classical music accessible to all, Lisa currently serves as Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra’s Director of Education and the Junior Bach Festival’s Music Director. She conducted, coached, and taught classes at Crowden Music Center for over thirty years in Berkeley, California, and served on the faculty of the full-scholarship Young Musicians Program under the auspices of UC Berkeley. She organized numerous chamber music workshops for adults and youth in the San Francisco Bay Area and led master classes for the R. Glier Kyiv Institute of Music in Kyiv, Ukraine, the Colburn School in Los Angeles, and Stanford University.
